How to plan a product launch in Egypt: a step-by-step guide

Product launch stage produced by Doers in Cairo

A product launch gets one first impression. In Egypt, that moment has to compete with Ramadan TV, crowded roads full of billboards and feeds that move by the second. Brands that launch well do not rely on one big day. They plan the weeks before it, the moment itself and the months after it as one campaign.

This is the plan we follow when we run launches as an advertising agency in Egypt.

1. Define what success looks like

Before any creative work, agree on what the launch has to achieve and how you will know. A consumer product may need awareness and first purchases; a B2B solution may need qualified meetings with a few hundred decision makers. Write down three or four numbers, such as reach, leads, distributors signed or sales in the first quarter, and plan everything back from them.

2. Pick the right timing

Timing in Egypt is not neutral. Ramadan gives the biggest TV audiences but also the highest prices and the most noise. Back-to-school and the end of the year are busy too. Trade launches often work best when they are timed with an exhibition such as Cairo ICT or EGYPES, when the whole industry is already in one place. Leave enough time before the date for production, media booking and approvals: rushing the last two weeks is where most launch budgets are wasted.

3. Get the brand and message ready first

The product name, visual identity, key message and the one reason to buy should be fixed before the campaign is produced. Every channel will repeat them, so changes later are expensive. If the brand is new, start with branding; if it is a new product from a known brand, decide how it fits the family.

4. Build the pre-launch phase

The weeks before launch decide how many people care on the day. Useful pre-launch steps:

  • Teasers on social media and outdoor that create curiosity without revealing everything.
  • A landing page where people can register interest, so you start the launch with a list.
  • Press and partners briefed early, with embargoed material ready.
  • Your own team and distributors trained before customers start asking.

5. Make the launch moment count

The launch itself is usually an event: a press conference, a dealer meeting, a public activation or a gala evening. It should be designed around what you want guests to do and say afterwards. Good event management covers the venue, stage, screens, guest list, media and the flow of the evening, and it captures photos and video that will feed every channel for weeks.

6. Amplify across channels

On launch day and in the weeks after, the campaign has to reach the people who were not in the room:

  • TV for mass reach and credibility when the product sells to a wide public.
  • Outdoor on the main roads to make the launch feel big and present.
  • Radio to repeat the message during the daily commute.
  • Digital to target the right audience, capture demand from search and retarget people who showed interest.

Our guide to advertising channels in Egypt explains what each one does best. Plan production once, so one shoot gives you the TV spot, social cuts and outdoor visuals together; see our media production.

7. Plan the first 90 days

Most launches lose momentum after the first week. Keep a plan for the next three months: content that answers real customer questions, offers for early buyers, presence at the next trade show with an exhibition stand, and a schedule to review results and move budget towards what works.

8. Measure and report

Go back to the numbers you agreed in step one. Track reach and frequency for TV and outdoor, leads and cost per lead for digital, attendance and meetings for events, and the sales or distribution results that matter most. A short weekly report in the first month and a monthly one after that keep everyone focused on the result, not on activity.

A quick launch checklist

  • Clear objectives and three or four target numbers
  • A launch date that fits the season and your industry calendar
  • Brand, message and product details fixed before production
  • Teasers, a landing page and briefed partners before the day
  • A launch event designed for content and conversations
  • A channel plan for the launch weeks, produced from one shoot
  • A 90-day plan and regular reporting against the targets
