Advertising costs in Egypt: what really drives the budget of a campaign

"How much does a campaign cost?" is the first question most clients ask, and the honest answer is: it depends on what the campaign has to achieve. Two brands can spend very different amounts on campaigns that look similar, because the cost is decided by a handful of factors, not by a price list.

This guide explains those factors, so you can plan a realistic budget and judge any proposal you receive from an advertising agency in Egypt.

1. The objective sets the size of the job

A campaign that has to make a new brand known across Egypt needs reach: many people, many times. A campaign that has to bring B2B leads from a few hundred decision makers needs precision, not reach. The first is usually a media-heavy budget; the second spends more on targeting, content and follow-up. Agree on the objective and how it will be measured before you discuss money.

2. Media is usually the biggest line

For most campaigns, buying the space costs more than making the ads. What moves the media budget:

  • Channel: TV and prime outdoor locations reach millions but need bigger budgets; digital and radio can start smaller and scale.
  • Season: Ramadan, back-to-school and the end of the year are the most expensive periods on TV and outdoor. See our guide to planning a Ramadan TV budget.
  • Weight: how many people you want to reach, and how often. Too little weight is the most common way to waste money: the campaign runs, but not enough to be noticed.
  • Location and timing: a billboard on a main bridge, a spot in a top drama series or a search keyword with heavy competition all cost more than quieter options.
  • Negotiation: packages, bonus spots and long-term deals can change the real cost a lot. This is where an agency's relationships matter.

3. Production: making the ads

Production covers everything you see and hear: films, photos, designs, copy and animation. What moves it:

  • Format: a TV commercial with actors, locations and post-production is a different scale of job from a set of social media designs.
  • Talent: celebrities and influencers add reach and credibility, and a significant fee.
  • Versions: one shoot can produce TV spots, short social cuts, outdoor visuals and stills. Planning all the versions at once costs far less than shooting again later. See our media production.

4. Events and exhibitions: scale, build and venue

For events and exhibition stands, the cost follows what people will see and touch: the size of the space, custom structures, screens and lighting, staging, catering and the venue itself. A modular stand used at several shows a year costs less per show than a new custom stand each time. Our exhibition stand guide lists the cost drivers in detail.

5. Brand and strategy: the part that makes everything else work

Strategy, research and branding are usually a small share of the total, but they decide whether the rest of the budget works. A clear brand and message make every ad more effective, so the same media money delivers more.

6. Agency fees

Agencies charge in different ways: a fee per project, a monthly retainer, a commission on media, or a mix. None is better in itself. What matters is that you know exactly what you pay for, who owns the ad accounts and the work, and how results will be reported.

How to get more from the same budget

  • Fewer channels, enough weight. Two channels done properly beat five done thinly.
  • Plan production once. Shoot for every format you will need.
  • Book early. The best positions and prices go first, especially before Ramadan.
  • Measure and move money monthly. Shift budget towards what is delivering against your KPIs.
  • Use one team. When strategy, creative, media and production sit together, nothing is paid for twice.
